Indian Classical Music envelopes tales of our rich and vibrant heritage and culture, encompassing intricate and rhythmic folklores, classical vocals and tunes aided by the divine melodies of composite traditional instruments. Efforts to preserve and promote this rich musical tradition are crucial for its survival and continued relevance. Musician like Pandit Joydeep Mukherjee, a multi-instrumentalist and a trail blazing musician of the Senia Shahjehanpur Gharana of recent times, has delivered 1500+ stage shows nationwide, is making heaven and earth meet to preserve our ancient yet extinct instruments like the Mohanveena, Sursingar, Tanseni Rabab and Sur-Rabab of the 16th and 17th centuries with his efforts to revive them into a new avatar. On 26th of February 2023, our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed and appreciated his tireless endeavors publicly towards this cultural preservation. Joydeep now looks forward to train the younger generation and lead his life trying to renew and prolong the legacy of our Indian cultural musical arts. He is also training the unknown but efficient artisans in creating quality musical instruments at a much cheaper rate in the affordable range of Indian middle & lower middle classes.

He started his training under Late Pt. Pranab Kumar Naha, a very senior disciple of the legendary musician Late Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra, in 1987 at the tender age of four years and continued training under him till May 2024 until the demise of Pt. Naha. He also got training of rhythms and its intricacies under Pt. Debasish Sarkar of Farukkabad Gharana.  

A regular artist of the Prasar Bharati & ICCR, he had taken talim in other instruments from Pt. Pranab Naha too, most of which are extremely rare. From 2010 onwards, he started to invest his money, time and energy and started working with unknown but able craftsmen and artisans within India to revive and modernize these extinct instruments so that these instruments can be labelled as “Made in India” ones. He probed for best local and unknown craftsmen and trained them to re-construct and revive the 18th CE Sursingar and early 20th CE Mohanveena with his tireless contemporary engineering plan and resources. Joydeep did not stop his endeavors during Covid phase as he vigorously started introducing his modified instruments via 100+ Facebook and social media Live programs nationwide and globally. The Honourable PM not only took his name but let the nation listen to a tune in Sursingar composed by Joydeep. The Sangeet Natak Akademi bestowed their prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar to Joydeep Mukherjee for Sursingar & Sarod in 2019. This is the first time in the history of the National Akademi of Music, Dance & Drama that any musician has been awarded for Sursingar instrument. Following this, Joydeep never looked back and shouldered the responsibility of reviving the 16th CE Tanseni Rabab and 19th CE Sur-Rabab, launched in May 2024. He was also called upon by the Sangeet Natak Akademi to perform with his Sursingar & Mohanveena in G20 Leaders’ summit held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on 9th September, 2023 which received a standing ovation from leaders all over the world in-front of the Honourable President, PM, Vice President, Cabinet Ministers and Chief Ministers of the States. He has covered across 1000+ media globally.

Currently he is also a Guru to several students across all age groups including the kids who are learning music under his direct supervision and winning various competitions across the nation.
